Update September 2021: Our Head Office in Hanley is starting to re-open, with Covid-19 safety precautions in place for the protection of our staff and our clients. We are currently seeing children & young people face-to-face and hope to start to open to our adult clients in the next few weeks. Our Dove Buddies groups are starting back up in several locations, please call our office or check our Facebook page for more information.

Adult Services & Group Support

We offer counselling and other support to people of all ages who have experienced a bereavement, significant loss, or life changing or limiting illness.  We also work with people who are trying to cope with anticipatory grief, i.e. you or someone you love has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. We recognise that bereavement impacts everyone differently, and that some bereavements can feel a lot harder to talk about than others, such as those associated with suicide, or a traumatic incident.  We also know that the impact of bereavement isn’t always immediate, sometimes people start to struggle months or even years down the line, or just feel very stuck in their grief when it feels as though everyone else has moved on.

Accessing counselling can help you to make sense of what you are experiencing, regaining a sense of control, express your emotions, and empower you to make the changes you want to see in your life.

From the 1st April 2020, the way the Dove Service’s adult services are funded has changed, along with the way people can refer to us.

NEW Wellbeing Service provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) has been launched across Staffordshire and we will be working in partnership with the new MPFT service.

The Dove Service will still provide bereavement and loss counselling & support, however any NEW adult referrals will only be taken via the new MPFT Wellbeing Service – to make a new referral please call 0300 3030923 or visit the MPFT website by clicking HERE

 Each counselling session costs the charity £45.00
 In Staffordshire the local CCG (through the Wellbeing Service) part-fund this charge
 In this case we would simply invite you to make a contribution for each session to help us to maintain and enhance the quality of our service delivery

Alternatively, if you are unable to access the Wellbeing Service due to you living outside of the catchment area, for example, or, you wish to refer directly to us, then we can provide self-funded counselling at a reduced rate of £35.00 per session. For more information on charges or eligibility please contact our Head Office on 01782 683155.

If you are an employee for a local authority please see our Employee Wellbeing page HERE for details on how to refer.

Leaflets and Resources

Please download our leaflets here:

We recognise that not everyone who experiences a bereavement or loss needs specialist counselling in order to be able to feel like themselves again, and because of that we have started to offer support groups where you can meet other people in a similar position to yourself and learn some skills to help you to cope with your own circumstances.

To find out if there are bereavement support groups in your area please follow the link or call us on our Head Office number 01782 683155.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Following Government advice around the COVID-19 outbreak, our Bereavement Support Drop-in group held at our Head Office on Wednesday mornings, has now been POSTPONED until further notice. We will update this page with further updates accordingly.
