Adult Counselling
HOW WE CAN HELP
We offer counselling and support to people of all ages who have experienced a bereavement, significant loss, or life changing or limiting illness. We also work with people who are trying to cope with anticipatory grief, i.e. you or someone you love has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. We recognise that
bereavement impacts everyone differently, and that some bereavements can feel a lot harder to talk about than others, such as those associated with suicide, or a traumatic incident. We also know that the impact of bereavement isn’t always immediate, sometimes people start to struggle months or even years down the line, or just feel very stuck in their grief when it feels as though everyone else has moved on.
Accessing counselling can help you to make sense of what you are experiencing, regaining a sense of control, express your emotions, and empower you to make the changes you want to see in your life.

NHS Talking Therapies also provide support to those struggling with depression, stress, anxiety, low mood, worry, phobias and other mental and emotional issues and to those who are adjusting to living with a long-term health condition.
EMPLOYEE WELLBEING SERVICES
The Dove Service works in partnership with local employers across the region to provide counselling, awareness raising and training, to support our communities’ emotional health and wellbeing. We can also offer group support sessions for staff following an employee death or other traumatic incident.
We understand that it can be difficult for employers to identify when an employee is experiencing feelings associated with bereavement and loss, and even harder to know how to support that person. We want to ensure that managers, staff and volunteers are provided with training, support and counselling, which supports their well-being.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS
We recognise that not everyone who experiences a bereavement or loss needs specialist counselling to be able to feel like themselves again. Because of this, we decided to start offering Bereavement Support Groups – providing people with an opportunity to meet others in a similar position and learn skills and strategies to help cope and manage their own struggles and circumstances.
Our Bereavement Support Group meets weekly in Burslem, for more information, or to register please follow the “register” link below or call us on our Head Office number on the top of this website .
SOCIAL FRIENDSHIP GROUPS - DOVE BUDDIES
We recognise that not everyone who experiences a bereavement or loss needs specialist counselling in order to feel like themselves again. Because of that, we offer Social Groups across North Staffordshire and Cheshire.
Dove Buddies is our Social Friendship Group for adults who have experienced bereavement and who may be struggling with social connections, loneliness and isolation. The aim of Dove Buddies is to forge those connections and organise activities that will engage group members, encouraging socialisation and re-engagement.
We organise quizzes, taster exercise classes, talks from local groups, plus visits to local attractions and places of interest. We run Dove Buddies groups within Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and Cheshire.
To register for any of these groups, call on 01782 914455 or email @Enquiries and leave your contact details, along with which date you are looking to join the group, or follow the “register” button below.
